Miami Beach Botanical Garden Reopens!
Community leaders, city officials, donors, members and friends of the garden will come together to celebrate the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the rejuvenated Miami Beach Botanical Garden on Tuesday, October 25 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at 2000 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida. The garden will open to the public on Saturday, October 29.
“Our goal for Miami Beach Botanical Garden was to enliven the urban green space with significant botanical richness and programmed elements to better serve the community for educational events and gatherings for multiple occasions, private and public,” explained firm principal, Raymond Jungles, FASLA, “so what we have now achieved is the ideal articulation of spaces; gathering space, space for contemplation, intimate space, and public space.”
There is now a processional sense of arrival to the garden. Visitors pass under sculptural Live Oak trees at the southeast corner of the garden, allowing multiple experiences and long site lines as one enters. All restrictive walls and fences have been removed, magnifying the scale of what is presently there and enticing circulation through the entire 2.6 acre site.
“Water is a vital element of my gardens, particularly in a botanical garden, where water plants can aid in increased botanical diversity while creating open space. A large water garden was designed to bring the sky into the garden, animate the space, and reflect the landscape,” says Jungles. The water garden cools the areas directly around the buildings and magnifies the sense of scale for the space. A new covered Banyan Room terrace has more than doubled the capacity for events.
Large quantities of native plants are linked throughout, in efforts to tie the urban habitat together. The plant palate includes flowering trees, palms, cycads and other subtropical plants that have the true scale to fit the garden space. Insects, birds and aquatic life will begin to enrich and enliven the environment. Raymond Jungles says, “It is a little gem, the best it can be, in a wonderful location. It is a wonderful addition to Miami Beach’s green public spaces.”
On behalf of Raymond Jungles, Inc., we would like to thank everyone involved in the project for their passion and dedication to the redesign, from individuals at the City of Miami Beach, Miami Beach Botanical Garden board members, staff and volunteers, Harbour Construction, Inc. and all other consultants and sub-consultants. Oolite blocks for the fountain feature were donated by Don Trezona of GardenScapes and associated labor costs were donated by the Miami Beach Botanical Garden Board and Plant Creations, Inc. Bromeliads were donated by Bullis Bromeliads.
The $1.2 million dollar landscape renovation project was funded by the City of Miami Beach General Obligation Bonds program, and administered by the City’s Capital Improvements Project (CIP) Office.

Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve Official Opening
Our latest Bahamian project, Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve, will officially open on March 24th in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera. The 25 acre sanctuary is being created in partnership with the Bahamas National Trust and the Leon Levy Foundation.
The preserve was developed by Shelby White, Trustee of the Foundation, in honor of her late husband Leon Levy. A great believer in bush medicine, Mr. Levy wanted a place for Bahamians and visitors to learn and celebrate the medicinal uses of native plants and trees. He thought these historical and cultural remedies should be a living part of our nation’s history.
The preserve will be the first national park on the island of Eleuthera. Funded by the Leon Levy Foundation and operated by the Bahamas National Trust, it will serve as an environmental education center as well as a facility for the propagation of native plants and trees. It is also expected to be an important tourist attraction in Eleuthera.

Hialeah Park Race Track
We would like to present our newest project engagement, Hialeah Park Race Track.
Hialeah Park opened its doors to the public in 1925 and quickly established itself as a destination within South Florida, home to legendary thoroughbred horse races.
Raymond Jungles, Inc. was brought into the project by Ewing Cole in December of 2010, to enhance the overall Master Plan design. The design revives the dormant racetrack and transforms the 202 acre site of the existing historic Hialeah Park into a destination entertainment landmark. We are in the process of composing design strategies based upon exiting site conditions as well as future development scenarios.

DESIGN MIAMI 2010
R20thCentury/Hugo Franca/Plant Creations, Inc. /Bullis Bromeliads/Raymond Jungles, Inc.
Natural beauty speaks for itself within constructed forms at Design Miami’s 2010 Exhibition Space. The approach to this design is intuitive and primitive, challenging the boundaries between design, art and nature. Hugo Franca sculpted the furniture pieces from a 1,000 year old Pequi Tree, which was integrated into a lush landscape designed by Raymond Jungles, Inc. with plant materials and labor donated by Plant Creations, Inc and Bullis Bromeliads.

Browning Residence on Miami Beach Botanical Garden: 2010 Tour of Miami Beach Gardens.
When Raymond Jungles was brought into the project, the owners intention was to integrate their Mediterranean style house, designed by architect Zeb Jarosz, into the property, with the garden as the interface between the interior and exterior. Privacy was desired on the south end of the property, which is adjacent to a public park. The house, grand in scale and lacking vegetation, needed to be blended into the neighborhood. Many native plants, including rare palms, were used to create habitat. The garden was created in keeping with the contemporary interiors, designed by architect Rene Gonzalez, while respecting the proportion and scale of the home. There is an unexpected contemporary twist to the design of all the hardscape elements, from the pool detailing to the fountains and planters. A favorite place in the garden is the side entrance off of the main parking area. Here, a private meditation garden floats alongside the home, which allows the owners to have the best entry experience possible.
